The full FAQ

Everything parents ask us, answered straight.

FoundrKids is an AI building app for kids ages 7 to 15: Studio missions coached by Spark, a safe AI coach, a portfolio of finished work, and a parent dashboard for you. One plan covers both age tiers: $19/month or $149/year, starting with a 14-day free trial, no card needed. Below are direct answers on safety, learning, missions, pricing, and screen time.

Safety & privacy

How FoundrKids keeps your child safe and keeps you in the loop. This is the short version; the Safety & Privacy page has the complete picture. Read the full safety approach →

Safety is the architecture, not a feature. Every message is screened in both directions, and Spark is a mission-scoped coach — not an open chatbot. You can read every conversation anytime, and a serious concern ends the session and is queued for human review.

In both directions, on every message. Everything your child writes is screened before it ever reaches the AI — with stricter limits for younger kids — and Spark’s replies are filtered before your child sees them: no links, no contact info, no outside chatter.

No. FoundrKids is a walled garden: no kid-to-kid messaging, no friends or follows, no public feeds, no ads, and no data resale. The only conversation in the app is between your child and Spark, and you can read all of it, anytime.

Yes. Every conversation your child has with Spark is readable from your parent dashboard, anytime. You also get a monthly learning summary of what they built and practiced. Nothing your child does in FoundrKids is hidden from you.

Yes — the actual conversations, not just summaries. Every conversation your child has with Spark is readable from your parent dashboard, word for word, anytime. The monthly learning summary adds the bigger picture: what your child built and which skills they practiced.

A serious safety concern ends the session immediately — Spark doesn’t try to talk through it — and the conversation is queued for human review. And because every conversation is readable from your parent dashboard, you can always see exactly what was said.

COPPA — the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act — is the U.S. law that requires verifiable parental consent before an online service collects personal information from a child under 13. ForgeAI is built COPPA-aligned: parent consent is required and permanently recorded before any child profile is created, parent and child accounts are separate and instantly revocable, and we store no personal details beyond a username, age range, and birth year.

As little as possible, for as short as possible. We store no personal details beyond a username, age range, and birth year — no real name, no photos, no location. Conversations are automatically deleted after 90 days, nothing is ever sold or used for ads, and accounts are instantly revocable.

Learning & outcomes

What your child practices, why it matters, and what they have to show for it.

How to direct AI instead of just consuming it. Every mission has your child describing an idea precisely, judging what comes back, revising, and shipping a finished artifact. Underneath that sit the builder habits — observation, iteration, finishing what they start. That loop — describe, look, refine, ship — is the core of real AI literacy for kids.

No. FoundrKids teaches the builder mindset (observation, prototyping, testing, iteration), not coding syntax. Spark coaches your child through the thinking, not a programming language. No coding experience is required at any age.

FoundrKids is built for ages 7 to 15 across two tiers: Explorer (ages 7-10) and Founder (ages 11-15). The whole experience (the missions, the look, and how the coach talks) re-themes by age, so a 7-year-old and a 14-year-old each get an experience made for them.

It’s built to do the opposite. Spark asks questions and coaches — it doesn’t hand over finished answers. Your child makes the decisions, writes the descriptions, and judges whether the result matches what they imagined. When it doesn’t, they figure out why and revise. That’s more thinking than a worksheet, not less.

Schools will get there, but AI moves in months and curricula move in years. Most schools are still deciding what their AI policy should be. FoundrKids kids don’t wait: they practice building with AI every month, in a safe environment made for it.

Every finished mission produces a real artifact, saved to your child’s portfolio along with the decisions that shaped it. Month over month it compounds into concrete proof of what your child can make — something they can show a grandparent, a teacher, or one day an application. And if you ever cancel, they keep it.

Missions & kits

Studio missions live entirely in the app. Kit missions need a physical FoundrKids Kit, and kits are coming later. Every mission ends with something real your child made. Browse the mission library →

Not right now. FoundrKids is an app subscription today: Spark, Studio missions, the portfolio, and the parent dashboard. FoundrKids Kits, with the parts for hands-on Kit missions, are coming later as an add-on. Nothing ships to your door today.

Studio missions are built entirely in the FoundrKids app with Spark, in sessions of about 15 to 25 minutes, and they’re what your plan includes. They’re rolling out now, and Founding Families get them first. Kit missions pair a 1-2 hour hands-on build from a physical FoundrKids Kit with Spark in the app. FoundrKids Kits are coming later.

A Studio mission session runs about 15–25 minutes. Kit missions, once FoundrKids Kits arrive later, add a 1–2 hour hands-on build. It’s designed to fit real family schedules — not to become another obligation you manage.

The full library is on the Missions page — every mission listed with what your child builds, what it secretly teaches, and how long it takes, organized by age tier.

Logistics

Trying, switching, canceling — the practical stuff.

No. FoundrKids is app-only today, so there’s nothing to ship and nothing to wait for: your child can start a Studio mission as soon as your account is set up. FoundrKids Kits are coming later as an add-on.

Yes — cancel anytime from your parent dashboard, no calls and no hoops. Your child keeps access to everything in their portfolio, so nothing they built disappears.

Yes. Explorer and Founder are age tiers inside the app, not separate plans. Both come with the same plan at the same price, so switching doesn’t change what you pay.

Pricing & value

One plan, both age tiers, and how it stacks up. See full pricing →

FoundrKids is one plan: $19/month, or $149/year billed once (about $12.42/month, saving 35%). Explorer (ages 7-10) and Founder (ages 11-15) are age tiers inside the app, and both come with the same plan at the same price. It includes Spark, the AI build coach, Studio missions, the portfolio, and the parent dashboard with its safety controls.

Yes. Every family starts with a 14-day free trial, and no card is needed to start.

FoundrKids is an app subscription with no box to build and ship each month, so at $19/month it costs less than most monthly STEM boxes. Your child gets Spark (a safe AI coach built for kids), new Studio missions rolling out in the app, and a portfolio that compounds month over month; you get the parent dashboard to see all of it. KiwiCo teaches science. CrunchLabs builds toys. FoundrKids builds builders.

Screens & AI concerns

The two hesitations every thoughtful parent has — taken seriously. Why FoundrKids, and why now →

No — the app exists to get something made, not to keep your child watching. Your child opens a mission, builds it with Spark’s coaching, and finishes; a Studio mission session runs about 15–25 minutes. Sessions are mission-scoped by design: build, don’t binge.

Spark isn’t an open chatbot. It’s a mission-scoped coach. There’s no endless feed and no infinite conversation: your child opens a mission, builds the thing, and the session stays on that mission from start to finish. Consumption apps are engineered to keep kids watching. FoundrKids is engineered to get something made. Build, don’t binge.

That instinct is fair. Most AI tools weren’t built for kids, and handing a child an open chatbot is a different thing entirely. FoundrKids exists because kids will grow up around AI either way, and the difference between consuming it and directing it is a learnable skill. Everything here (screening in both directions, mission-scoped sessions, your ability to read every conversation) was designed for children from the start.
